Essential Supplies for Your Homemade Soy Milk Recipe:
You’ll need the following to make your
soy milk:
- A container for soaking beans – A32 oz. Mason Jars are ideal, but any container with 4 or more cups can be used.
- Most blenders can blend beans that have been well-soaked.
- It is also possible to use a cheesecloth strainer, such as our fine-mesh Butter Muslin Cheesecloth. We recommend Organic cotton nut milk bags for maximum convenience.
- The pan should have a heavy bottom to ensure even heating and prevent scorching.
HOW TO MAKE SOY MILK at Home:
You can customize this homemade soymilk recipe to suit your tastes. You can add sugar, agave nectar or spices such as cinnamon or cocoa. Choose yellow soybeans to get the best results.
- Half a cup of soybeans
- Water for Soaking: 2-3 cups
- Blending water: 4 cups
- Sugar to taste
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE SOY MILK AT HOME:
How to make soymilk at home
- Soak the soybeans overnight in 2 to 3 cups of water. This will soften the soybeans and prepare them for blending.
- Drain of the water, and then rinse the soybeans thoroughly to remove dirt or contaminants.
- Remove Skins as much as possible by rubbing beans underwater. Skins will float up to the surface and can be removed by skimming. You don’t have to remove all of them.
- Blend the soybeans with 4 cups water in a blender.
- Blend until it is smooth.
- Strain using a Cheesecloth, or a Nut Milk Bag. We recommend these organic nut milk bags because of their durability and efficiency.
- Heat the milk in a heavy bottom pan until it reaches 212oF. Keep the temperature at 212oF (100oC) for 20 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid sticking. This step is important because, as a bean, soy cannot be eaten raw.
- Store the milk in the refrigerator. You can store it in the refrigerator for up to four days.
